Prescriptions Refill Policy

Please plan ahead when your pet’s prescription needs to be refilled. You are welcome to call and ensure that your pet’s prescription is able to be refilled, the doctor will review your pet’s medical record and make sure no changes are needed to the prescription, and approve the refill. Prescriptions will not be filled in advance, unless you choose to pre-pay for the prescription over the phone, please be prepared to give our team the time it needs to fill the prescription.

For the safety of your pet, certain medications require blood testing and checkups at specific intervals in order for your pet to continue on the medication.

All prescription medications purchased from this hospital have been inspected and approved by the FDA, they are dosed properly and accurately, and are manufactured and packaged according to US government regulations. Unfortunately, the same may not be true for online pharmacies. When you purchase from an online pharmacy, the fact is you do not know the source of the medications.

Guarantee

Pharmaceutical manufacturers will only honor product guarantees when the medications are prescribed by and purchased from the pet’s veterinarian. Internet and mail-order catalogs do not qualify for these guarantees.

Online pharmacies hurt small practices and drive up the cost of professional fees

The pharmacy is a vital and integral part of any veterinary practice. Revenue from the pharmacy allows practices to keep professional fees at a reasonable and affordable rate, purchase medical equipment, and pay for a well-trained and professional staff. When revenue from the pharmacy declines, small practices have no choice but to increase professional fees to cover the cost of doing business.

Prescription Refunds

Any prescription medication that has left the building, regardless of whether or not it has been opened, CANNOT BE RETURNED. As all of our medications are regulated by the Federal Drug Administration (FDA) we are subject to the same dispensing laws as human pharmacies. Please remember that flea medication is still a prescription item and falls under these regulations.

Online Pharmacies

Lawndale Pet Hospital will not fax a prescription to any online pharmacy. If you would like to purchase medications from one of these companies, we can provide you with a written prescription and ask that you come pick it up.

Our staff works diligently with a variety of manufacturers to find the best price and quality products and medications for your pet. We cannot vouch for the quality, dosing, proper storage, or legitimacy of medications purchased online.
